This special day aims to raise awareness and much-needed funds for children in foster care. The Pyjama Foundation's Mission:
Founded in 2004 by Bronwyn Sheehan OAM, The Pyjama Foundation strives to empower children in foster care with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to transform their lives. This remarkable organization recognized the alarming statistics that highlighted poor literacy and numeracy levels among children in care. Determined to make a difference, Bronwyn Sheehan established the Love of Learning Program, offering hope and a more positive future for these children.
The Love of Learning Program:
The Love of Learning Program is a simple yet powerful initiative designed to provide educational support to children in foster care. Through this program, dedicated volunteers known as Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in care. These compassionate individuals spend just one hour per week engaging in learning-based activities with the child. This consistent and caring mentorship helps foster a love for learning and boosts their educational achievements.
National Pyjama Day's Purpose:
The primary goal of National Pyjama Day is to generate funds for The Pyjama Foundation's Love of Learning Program, specifically targeting Australia's lowest performing educational group – children in foster care. By participating in this day of wearing pyjamas, you actively contribute to making a positive change in these children's lives. The funds raised will enable The Pyjama Foundation to offer learning skills to more than 1000 children, provide essential educational resources, and establish stable and positive relationships.
